The all-new Aprilia RS 660 is certainly the biggest addition to the 2021 range for the Noale-based brand. It represents a big change for a market segment in which a motorcycle like this had been missing for many years. More exploitable than the four-cylinder Supersport bikes, but more performing than its Japanese rivals, the RS 660 is... the bike we needed.
Design-wise, there is a clear sporting line - thanks to the winglets integrated into the double fairing - with sharp and slim lines that convey aggressiveness. At the front, the protagonist is the triple LED optical group with daytime running lights, which has a typical Aprilia family feeling. There are three colors available: Apex Black; Lava Red; Acid Gold.
Very light - 169 kg dry, 183 kg in running order - the RS plays as always on the perfect integration between chassis and engine, with an in-line twin-cylinder engine that is basically... the front bank of the RSV4 1100's V4, with an 81mm bore that happens to be the regulatory limit of MotoGP. Euro-5 compliant, it performs a load-bearing function and integrates, in the rear area, the swingarm attachment.
Max power is 100 hp at 10,500 rpm, maximum torque of 67 Nm at 8,500 rpm, with 80% of the torque available from 4,000 rpm, and 90% from 6,250 rpm. The big-bang engine (with 270° timing) offers a V-Twin sound and it boasts a single countershaft.
The RS 660 is also available in a 95 HP version, ideal for new riders.
The fork is a fully adjustable upside-down KYB 41 mm unit, while the shock only lacks the compression adjustment. The braking system includes a pair of 320 mm discs with radial calipers and Brembo radial master cylinder, as well as a two-piston rear caliper and a 220 mm disc. And obviously, cornering ABS.
The RS 660 is equipped with Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa II tires: 120/70 ZR 17 at the front and 180/55 (or 180/60) ZR 17 at the rear.
The electronic package is what differentiates the most the Aprilia RS 660 from the competition, both in supersport and sport-touring. The APRC package is in fact virtually the same that equips the RSV4 and Tuono, with Traction Control, engine maps, Wheelie Control, Cruise control, bi-directional Quickshifter, and even more the engine brake management.
The RS 660 is equipped with a TFT screen, with two different views (Road and Track), on which you can activate Aprilia MIA, the multimedia platform that allows to connect the smartphone to the bike and which includes both the infotainment system with vacal assistant, phone calls and music through the joystick on the handlebar, together with the navigation and data acquisition function.
