Nico's stories: Azzalin's Cagiva at the Dakar
All the Cagiva that raced the Paris-Dakar! This is the personal collection of Roberto Azzalin, the main architect of that adventure and the two successes. They are all there, from the 650 Ligier of '85 of Auriol to the 900 winners with Orioli
Extraordinary collection, shown exclusively for the MotoFestival MY 2023. With racing department technician Mauro Cremonesi we discover the evolution of the species in the ten official participations in the African rally. The first bike was built in just a few months on the basis of the production Elefant 650 and came close to victory with Hubert Auriol.
The '87 850 was also in the lead when the late French rider fractured both ankles in the finale. In '89 the turning point, in 1990 the first victory with Edi Orioli and four years later the second, again with the Friulian champion.
The Cagiva of the Castiglioni brothers dared to challenge the dominators of the Dakar and created a legend. Speakers include Roberto Azzalin who led the team and was also the protagonist of the technical evolution, Toni Merendino who represented Cagiva's historic sponsor, Carlo Pernat who directed the Castiglioni's sporting activity at 360 degrees. Up to Gigi Soldano, the historical photographer from Varese who took the most beautiful pictures of Cagiva and not only in Africa. And a special memory goes to Gian Paolo Marinoni
