Alessandro Delbianco: ‘I didn't look bad in World Superbike’
After making his debut while still young in Stock1000 and WorldSBK, Delbianco now had the chance to return for three rounds in the world championship and show the progress he has made and the maturity he has reached
It's not often that you have to replace two riders from the same team at different times, but it happened to Alessandro Delbianco who returned to SBK, where he had raced for one season in 2019, first at Magny Cours to replace Dominique Aegerter and then at Jerez in place of the injured Remy Gardner, both from Team GRT Yamaha.
In between the two replacements Alessandro had ridden another WorldSBK round as a wild card at Cremona, again on a Yamaha YZF-R1 but this time for Team Motoxracing. It is not easy to jump on an unfamiliar bike and moreover in one of the toughest championships of all and it is even less easy to do so on weekends where rain alternates with sunshine, but at Magny Cours Delbianco scored a tenth and two thirteenth places. A half miracle even if many recognise his excellent driving qualities in the wet.
At Cremona with MXR he only scored one point, while he was left empty-handed in the last round at Jerez. On the whole, however, beyond the results, Ale has shown that he can stand with the ‘gurus’ of the SBK without disfiguring himself, and above all he has confirmed to have reached an important maturity, also thanks to the top seasons spent in the CIV SBK, the Italian championship.
In this interview Delbianco tells us about his three-year experience in WorldSBK, the past, the path taken by Yamaha and his hopes for the future.
