Harley-Davidson
Street Glide ST
Coast to coast, route 66 and California in a day? Here's how...
Travelling with a big twin #Harley-Davidson not only makes you feel immediately in America, but it's so cool that even on any late winter day you can coast to coast, cross Route 66 and see the sunset in California. All this, of course, without leaving Italy.... Don't believe it?
With a touch of irony our @motoreetto wanted to tell us about a special trip made magical by the timeless charm of the #StreetGlide ST. Departing from the east coast of Romagna at first light of day to tackle the curves of the Apennines among which the great American cruiser demonstrated incredible agility and pleasantness.
This is thanks to the low centre of gravity, but also to the big 117 cubic inch (1923 cc) engine that pulls you out of the bends with truck-like torque and to the suspension, in particular the pair of Ohlins mounted on this special set-up.
The ride is always comfortable thanks to the position and air protection of the batwing fairing, so much so that we never get tired of riding. In fact, having crossed the Futa pass and descended to Barberino del Mugello, we detour towards Pistoia to take State Road 66, which unlike the American mother road is a beautiful road full of curves that climbs towards Abetone. We then descend to head towards the Tyrrhenian Sea not before we have filled our eyes with the rolling Tuscan hills on the Orcianese road.
We arrive on the west coast but before saying goodbye to the sea and the sunset we descend to Cecina and Bibbona to touch down in La California. Our mission is accomplished, but the desire to grind the road is not quenched and the next day we set off north again. But as they say in these cases, that's another story....
