Enrico Tomasin: ‘Cairoli had a hunger that is missing today, Pichon is my favourite rider’

Enrico Tomasin is one of the most respected trainers in world motocross. His story began in the 1990s: ‘I didn't have money for high-performance motorcycles, so I learned to make do.’ After studying marine engineering, he joined Ducati Superbike, then spent eight years at HRC with Martin Racing.

His first encounter with Tony Cairoli? ‘2001, he was a little kid with a bandana, 14 years old. He had something that is missing today: the hunger to succeed. That drives you to push even without petrol.’ He met him again in 2009: ‘He was already a fully-fledged rider, with different reasoning skills.’

The American adventure with Chad Reed in 2011: ‘We finished second with the private Tuto Motorsport team. One day he arrived at the test without boots after a three-hour journey. He was meticulous about everything, from tightening screws to electronics.’

The project he is passionate about today? The Tomasin Racing 500 2T with fuel injection: " Launched in 2023, we had 20 orders on the Monday after its debut. Today we have sold 250 bikes, without modifying the frame or original Honda parts.‘

His favourite rider remains Michel Pichon: ’2004, 17 consecutive pole positions. He broke his collarbone at Teutschenthal, and the next day we put him on the bike: he started both races in the lead."
