From Sicily to the Isle of Man
Going all the way to the Isle of Man by motorbike to see the Tourist Trophy is one of the dreams of many motorcyclists: here is the account of the journey of our own Antonio Privitera riding the Honda CBR650R
Sicily is separated from the Isle of Man, that small strip of land between the north of Ireland and England, by just 3,500 km. Nothing difficult for a motorcyclist, it is not a question of moving through jungles or deserts. Yet arriving in Douglas after having crossed all of Europe, finding oneself among thousands of motorcyclists arriving on the Isle of Man to experience the excitement of the Tourist Trophy, is an extraordinary experience, worth all the effort of at least five continuous days of travel.
We left in mid-May to arrive on the Island in time for the first week of the race, we spent 9 days between the Mountain and some of the most beautiful places on the Island that hosts the TT, returning home almost a month later, with our Honda CBR650R that accompanied us for about 10,000 km.
This is the tale of the journey, a tale that is perhaps partial, incomplete and chaotic, yet sincere and passionate, an invitation to travel by motorbike, to take as much space for oneself as possible and enjoy the motorbike and the places one passes through. We - as always - came back changed from the trip, perhaps better, certainly different, probably more thirsty than before for emotions and kilometres under the wheels. Which is what counts.
