Paolo Pavesio: ‘V4 almost decided for 2026, Toprak a sporting choice, not a marketing one’
Paolo Pavesio, managing director of Yamaha Motor Racing, outlines the future of the Japanese manufacturer at Motofestival. Regarding the V4, it is no longer a secret: ‘We are very close to a final decision. If we are convinced that it will perform better than the inline four, we will bring the V4 to the race in 2026. In Valencia, we will see the bikes that will race next.’
On Toprak, who arrived from Superbike: ‘It's not marketing, it's a sporting choice. He is in his physical and mental prime and can be competitive. He proves that you can get to MotoGP from Superbike.’
Quartararo remains the benchmark: "He has committed to the project for another two years at the start of 2024. The rational part knows that it takes time and work, the emotional part finds it more difficult. Miracles don't exist, but we are making progress.‘
Rins confirmed: ’Great talent, he has given more than expected this year. We helped him with our medical team, now he is better.‘ Miller: ’Enthusiasm, speed and experience. The only one to have raced with a V configuration, he will be the ideal teammate for Toprak."
On Liberty Media: ‘The gap with F1 is not on the track, but off it. MotoGP must remain faithful to its audience: passionate motorcyclists, not apply the Formula 1 model.’
