The F450 GS marks a new chapter for BMW Motorrad. ‘It's a true BMW with the brand's classic standards, but in a new segment,’ explains Alessandro Toffanin, head of communications at BMW Motorrad Italia. The 310 range is a thing of the past: this bike opens up a new category for the Bavarian manufacturer.
The 420cc twin-cylinder engine was developed entirely in Munich, with sophisticated technical solutions: 135° offset crankshaft pins and a counter-rotating shaft to eliminate vibrations. ‘A choice made to give it more character than a classic in-line twin-cylinder,’ explains Toffanin. With 48 horsepower and a kerb weight of 178 kg, it complies with the A2 limits for new riders.
The Easy Ride Clutch, standard on the Trophy, is mechanical and centrifugal: it allows you to stop at traffic lights without pulling the lever, but always guarantees engine braking off-road. The 19‘ front and 17’ rear wheels are in keeping with the GS philosophy: versatility of use between road and dirt.
Production will be at TVS in India, but the design is entirely BMW, with customisations available for more off-road use.
