Venerus: ‘What does motorcycling mean to me? It's a way of life and a source of artistic inspiration.’

Venerus' music has an intrinsic flow that evokes the rhythm and pace of a motorbike, a feeling that is not accidental. The Milanese singer-songwriter is, in fact, a super-enthusiastic motorcyclist, who sees the motorbike not only as a means of transport, but also as a profound source of creative inspiration.

‘Travelling by motorbike is, to all intents and purposes, a kind of meditation,’ explains the singer-songwriter, highlighting how long journeys, often spread over several days, offer total immersion in the present, a true feeling of absolute freedom. This search for flow and ‘resonance with the engine and wheels’ has proved extremely fruitful: the song ‘Sei Acqua’ from his previous album was written almost entirely during a motorbike trip to Puglia. It is precisely in those moments of concentration that “spontaneous” and creative sequences of thoughts emerge, an experience that, for Venerus, is the equivalent of “horse riding” in centuries past.

His passion for motorcycles is also reflected in his choice of vehicles: he owns a Kawasaki W800, Alizée, and a 1990 Super Ténéré, preferring ‘vintage’ models for their build quality and durability. His approach is anything but rigid or “macho”: his motorcycles are often customised with a touch of irony, such as the addition of a Sissy Bar to the adventure Super Ténéré or punk-chic details such as a coloured sheepskin on the seat, a way to add a smile and “desecrate” the sometimes overly serious attitude of the motorcycling world.

Even the unexpected, such as his fall in Montenegro during a motorcycle trip in the Balkans, is seen as an integral part of the philosophy of travel: the unexpected “creates memories” and is the element that makes the adventure worth living.

This philosophy of travel and life is crystallised in the title of his new album, “Speriamo”, due for release on 7 November. What was once an ironic expression among friends has become the key to understanding the present: “let's hope” sums up the need to cling to hope when you have no control over your life, a feeling that drives you to move forward and seek beauty, despite the complexity and sadness of the contemporary world.

The album reflects an approach to art as sharing, with a range of high-profile collaborations, including Cosmo, Mace, Side Baby, Mahmood and Jake La Furia. The unbreakable bond with motorbikes is confirmed by the opening track, entirely dedicated to his travelling companion, Alizée.
