BMW and the future
Electrifying and technological
What are the frontiers of technology in two-wheeling? We talked about this with Andrea Silva, BMW Motorrad communications manager
If we talk about technology and innovation, BMW is among the most cutting-edge manufacturers. It is a large group, always attentive to cutting-edge solutions, but there is also an added advantage: the technological shift from 4 to 2 wheels. Andrea Silva, BMW Moto communications manager, explains how beneficial this is.
One example is the CE 04, the Bavarian manufacturer's new electric scooter. In addition to being a concentrate of technology, it is also a vehicle that has broken the mold of design.
To this day, innovation cannot be separated from connectivity. Vehicles are connected with the user and increasingly they also gather information from the outside world. This leads to two orders of advantages. The first is in terms of safety. Technology actively helps motorcyclists while they are driving and also in case of accidents. BMW has designed a system, eCall, that is able to "know" when you are in an accident and autonomously alert help.
However, connectivity is also a service. Especially in urban environments where motorcyclists and scooterists need information.
We also talk about technology in the service of ecology. BMW has had an environmental manager since the 1970s, and it can be said that the ecological approach is part of the production process.
Also on the subject of ecology, BMW is developing electric technology, but that's not all: research is also continuing to develop ever cleaner heat engines, and work is also being done on hydrogen.
