Alex Marquez: ‘My surname? It doesn't keep me awake at night, but if I had a different one, they would give me more credit.’

Alex Marquez: ‘My surname? It doesn't keep me awake at night, but if I had a different one, they would give me more credit.’

Alex Marquez breaks his silence on the issue that many raise: the shadow of his brother Marc. ‘It may be that I am underestimated, but it's not something that keeps me awake at night,’ he admits sincerely at Moto.it's Motofestival. ‘With a different surname, people would value me more, that's for sure.’

The 2025 season overturned all predictions. ‘No one expected to see us up there. We took the lead in the world championship twice from Marc, something no one else has done,’ he says proudly. The secret? The Gresini atmosphere: ‘They never put pressure on you, they give you confidence and security. It's like a second family.’

And it was Alex who convinced Marc: ‘He said to me, “think if you hadn't convinced me, I would have stayed at Honda”. Here, everything is valued, every detail counts.’

He is categorical about his future as a father: ‘If I have a son and he asks me for a motorbike, I'll give it to him, but I'll never force him. And I certainly won't call him Marquez - with that surname, the pressure would be unbearable.’

Shy at first, playful with those he knows, Alex relaxes by building Lego: ‘I have all the Ducatis. Next? The Titanic, but I need to find space for it.’
