Just as special versions and fittings were an essential aspect of the old Monsters, the current range also adapts and, with the "SP" version, enhances the sporty aspect of the naked bike par excellence. MotoGp style livery, fully adjustable Öhlins suspension, Termignoni exhaust and Brembo Stylema callipers with aluminium flanges for the 320mm front brake discs.
There is also a steering damper to keep any front-end intemperance at bay. All this is to do with the 937 cc, liquid-cooled, 90° V-twin Testastretta 11° engine with desmodromic eight-valve distribution capable of delivering 111 horsepower at 9,250 rpm.
There is no longer the trellis frame in vogue on the superbikes of the time, but a very up-to-date Front Frame, inspired by that of the Panigale V4, in practice a light and compact aluminium alloy structure attached to the engine heads. The weight drops by two kilograms, 186 kg, also thanks to the adoption of an extremely light lithium-ion battery, in addition to the brand new fork (-600 gr), and aluminium brake flanges.
The new generation of Monster has enhanced the playful side of this bike, and with this "SP" version, this aspect is even more emphasised. The more refined chassis makes this Monster even more incisive and fun in the mixed, be it narrow or fast, and the characteristics of the twin-cylinder don't make you want more horsepower, on the contrary, the performance seems adequate and perfectly aligned to the characteristics of the bike. It convinced us so much that we even decided to take it to an atypical context for a bike of its kind, and so we went to the track.
Disappointed? Not at all, the Monster SP performed very well, and above all it made us have fun. After all, isn't it a motorbike designed precisely for this purpose? 15,390 € is the price of this fun bike with an Emilian twist, which proved to be a lot of fun on the road and beyond!
