Sandro Laici. 70 years of Moto Guzzi as it once was, 70 years of experience

Sandro Laici. 70 years of Moto Guzzi as it once was, 70 years of experience

Having moved to Tuscany from the Marche region ‘before the flood’, Sandro Laici worked for a long time on machinery in the leather industry. Every now and then, he would visit his friend Baroncini, a motorbike mechanic. One day, he saw him pulling out a series of red bikes. Sandro asked his friend, who cut him short: ‘No one can stop these!’ So he left for his homeland and returned to Tuscany with two bikes, one was an Airone Sport, the 250, the other an Astore, both with horizontal cylinders. And that's where it all began.

At first, it was in his spare time, at first it was for his motorbikes. Then for a few friends, then during the holidays, and again during holidays taken specifically for that purpose. In short, the real story begins then, when, close to retirement, Sandro had already written the next page of his destiny. Which is what it is today. Only red bikes with a “reclining” cylinder. From the very first, unobtainable, legendary ones to the last Falconi, 1967.

Everything is still in that small garage in Tuscany, and in a tin shed for spare parts, pieces to be rebuilt, a precious “piece” that is his but will be fixed when the time comes. The truffle town also holds this wonderful secret: a man who knows everything, absolutely everything, about those motorcycles that are part of the history of many, many of us. One of the few, and increasingly fewer, to whom one can turn with absolute confidence and unusual pleasure.
