Daniele Papi:
Elba, Sei Giorni and Vintage, a bridge over 40 years of history
THE INTERVIEW
The Island of Elba organized and hosted the Vintage Enduro Trophy 2021, a scale celebration of the legendary 1981 International Six Days of Enduro
The one of that time was organized and guided, in full Enduro revolution, by Daniele Papi, Italian Technical Commissioner and, then, manager of Yamaha enterprises at the Dakar. That year Italy won everything, Trophy, Vase, Industry, all classes except one, the 175cc. Today's Vintage Six Days, halved in commitment to the different use, but perhaps doubled in terms of organizational difficulties, was given to fans by the Elbans, of course with more than a little help from a friend. The Enduro Vintage phenomenon literally exploded in the crackling of the legendary, but always current, two-stroke engines. Inaugurated two years ago with the victory of the National Sala-Passeri-Rinaldi team, which thus conquered the first Trophy, the Great Vintage Enduro Race reiterates the concept with record-breaking results on the Island of Elba. The Italians do not confirm, Grasso has a mechanical problem, wins the France of Peterhansel, Viardot, Charbonnel. The secret of Vintage? The men who have written the chapters of an exclusive and contagious passion, their unforgettable motorcycles re-styled, the phenomenal opportunity to find together several generations of formidable Champions.
