Alessandro Lupino: ‘Ducati is like a family, Cairoli and I never talk about motorbikes’
Alessandro Lupino is the man who made Ducati history in motocross. ‘The first victory with both models bears my name, I feel like it's my family,’ confesses the rider from Romagna who caused panic in 2006 in the 85 class: "I won the Junior World Championship in Vanta, beating Tomac and Roczen. I passed Seewer at the last corner, hit him, we both fell, but I got back up and won.‘
His friendship with Cairoli began when he was very young: ’When I was 15, I went to De Carli. Antonio was my idol. I lived under him, joking around every day. Our secret? We never talk about motorcycles, only family and hobbies."
2021 is a dream come true: ‘Motocross of Nations won in Italy with Tony and Guadagnini. I fell, hit my head, I don't remember 17 minutes of the race. But we were a fantastic team, willing to do anything for each other. Tony had fallen at Riola and didn't want to race, I insisted a lot.’
With Ducati, everything changes: "From rider to developer, the most difficult mindset. The 450 was already perfect at the first test in December. The most challenging part? The suspension, a total blank slate.‘
As a federal technician, he identifies talent: ’Alvisi, Mancini, Mantovani. I recognise the rider by his eyes before the race, you already know the result."
