The terrible sibling of the MT-09 adapts to the new course of the Dark Side of Japan. It complies with Euro5 regulations, but it's still a devil
In Blade Runner's fictional 2019, Deckard roamed around Los Angeles on a flying vehicle. The reality is obviously vastly different, but if we had to imagine the perfect bike to use on the streets of the futuristic metropolis depicted by Ridley Scott, the new MT-07 would be among our first choices.
Born in 2014, MT-09's younger sister has contributed massively to the historic success of the Hyper Naked range, with 250.000 units sold worldwide, the 07 accounting for 125.000 units. The 690-cc twin cilinder is a versatile bike - on the one hand, it serves as an entry-level model to the world of MT-style sporty riding. On the other, it is suitable for expert drivers thanks to its engaging nature as far as handling and performance are concerned. Its secret lays in its CP2 engine, a parallel twin with 270° timing, but also in a compact, agile and effective chassis. And, most of all, it's wickedly funny, which is especially apt for a model belonging to the Dark Side of Japan.
For 2021 the MT-07 becomes Euro-5 and gets the minimalist design of the new generation of MT bikes like the MT-09. It has been equipped with a new front braking system, which is more powerful, the riding position changes - more upright and comfortable - thanks to the new, wider, handlebar with a conical section and to a new saddle and tank. There’s also a new front fairing headlight thanks to a new LED optical unit that integrates the blinkers.
There is other news as well: the 14-liter tank is equipped with covers that hide the air ducts of the airbox and it flow into the saddle. The overall quality of the bodywork has been improved, increasing the quality and there’s a new LCD cockpit, which is easier to read and to use, thanks to the new switches.
The engine offers a maximum power of 73.4 horsepower at 9,000 rpm, but, most of all, a torque power of 67 Nm at 6,500 rpm, now delivered more smoothly, making the ride even more enjoyable and dynamic. And the braking system is the same one as the MT-09, with 298 mm discs.
The price is of 6,999 euros. A price that could make it accessible even for an android hunter.
