Kevin Vandi: from supermoto to CIV, the champion coaching tomorrow's racing stars
The Italian supermoto rider talks to Moto.it about his racing career, his collaboration with Ducati and his new role coaching young talents in the Italian motorcycle racing championship
As a child, he dreamed of reaching the Motorcycle World Championship. Today, he continues competing in Supermoto while helping young riders pursue that very same ambition. Kevin Vandi, also known by his nickname "Sexy Vandi", shares his story with Moto.it during CIV Racing Night at Misano, reflecting on a career filled with victories, sacrifices and new opportunities.
An established figure in Italian Supermoto, Vandi is still actively racing and collaborating with Ducati, but he has also taken on a new challenge: coaching young riders competing in the CIV Moto4 championship. His role involves analyzing racing lines, riding techniques and performance, passing on his experience to the next generation.
One of his most treasured memories is winning the 2020 Italian championship at Pomposa, thanks to a decisive overtake just a few corners from the finish. But his journey hasn't always been straightforward. After starting out in road racing, injuries and the high costs of competition pushed him towards Supermoto, a decision he now considers a fortunate turning point.
His advice to young motorcycle enthusiasts is straightforward: "Go to the track. You'll have more fun, you can push harder and you'll take fewer risks."
And where does he see himself in ten years? Kevin hopes to continue working with young riders, perhaps helping his team progress to international competitions. Because even when his racing career eventually comes to an end, motorcycles will remain at the center of his life.
