"Do you want to close the Dolomite passes to motorbikes?" - TALK
Too many vehicles in the summer months? It has been discussed for years, CAI and environmentalists would like to stop or reduce access to the passes, tour operators and tourists are opposed, the provinces and regions concerned try to mediate.
Talk: motorbikes and Dolomite passes
We talk about it with two enthusiasts: Oliver Call, hotelier in San Vigilio di Marebbe and motorcyclist, who takes Italian and foreign customers for a ride on his BMW range; Renato Scialpi, from Milan and journalist with the Touring Club Italiano, who knows the area, is a hiker and cyclist.
Italiano, connoisseur of places, walker and cyclist.
In 2017, the Sella Pass was closed, every Wednesday in July and August from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The following year, from 23 July to 31 August, it was the turn of the closed number always at the Sella Pass, from Monday to Friday. It didn't work, the protests of hoteliers and tourists got the better of them, and in the end the covid epidemic made it advisable to give up.
We check with our guests whether the problems of traffic, danger and pollution are real. We try to understand what measures could be taken to enjoy this natural heritage while respecting collective needs. We evaluate the objectives that the Unesco Dolomites Foundation has set for 2030.
